Air Force Veteran Alea Nadeem Enters Race for Congress
Toledo, OH – Today, Republican Alea Nadeem, a Toledo native and Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard with two decades of service in the U.S. Air Force, launched her campaign for Congress in Ohio’s 9th District and released the following statement:
“For too long, career politicians have let down the good, hardworking people of northwest Ohio. Our local economy is weaker, our families are worse off, and our communities are less safe,” Alea said. “Now more than ever, I’m called to serve because northwest Ohio must aim higher and demand better. After forty-three years in Washington, career politician Marcy Kaptur’s lost touch, and it’s time for change.”
“I am running for Congress to solve problems where career politicians have failed the good, hardworking people of northwest Ohio. In the military, our focus is on completing the mission and getting results. I’ll fight for Ohio’s factories, farms, and families, along with President Trump’s America First policies that will protect the American Dream for future generations,” Alea added.
Alea Nadeem is an Air Force veteran and patriot who grew up in a union household in Toledo. As a child, she was kidnapped and spent nearly four years in Iraq. Her mother fought for her return, and Alea was eventually rescued by the FBI. This experience gave Alea a deep love for her country and inspired her to serve in the military to protect freedom. Alea joined the military after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, serving as an intelligence officer and a special investigator. Today, she is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard.
In Congress, Alea will be an independent-minded outsider who will address the issues where career politicians like Marcy Kaptur have failed.

Alea Nadeem: In the military, we serve to defend our freedom, and we all signed up for different reasons.
I was called to service.
I was born in Toledo…to an American mother, and Iraqi father.
When I was eight, we took a family trip to visit my father’s parents in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.
A short visit turned into years in captivity when my father separated me from my mother and forced me to stay.
My mother fought to bring me home and finally did with the help of the FBI.
You never know the freedom you had until it’s gone. I am so grateful to be an American.
I was a junior at Central Catholic high school when America was attacked on nine-eleven.
I knew it was my duty to the country that gave me a second chance – so I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
That’s been my life for twenty-two years. Today, I’m a lieutenant colonel.
The Air Force’s motto is aim high.
Now more than ever, I’m called to serve because northwest Ohio must aim higher and demand better. After forty-three years in Washington, career politician Marcy Kaptur’s lost touch.
I am running for Congress to solve problems where the career politicians have failed the good, hardworking people of northwest Ohio.
